Why do I need to re-authenticate my payment method?
Occasionally, your bank may require you to reverify your payment method for security purposes. This typically happens when:
- You've changed your password at your bank
- Your bank's multi-factor authentication (MFA) settings have been updated
- Your bank requires periodic reauthorization to maintain the connection
- Plaid’s Access credentials have expired
When re-authentication is needed, the affected payment method will include a yellow “verify” button in your account for easy identification.
Steps to re-authenticate your payment method:
- Navigate to the Move Money tab in your account
- Go to the Payment Methods section at the top of the page
- Locate the payment method that needs re-authentication - it will no longer be highlighted green and include a yellow “verify” button on the right:
- Click the "Verify" button next to the highlighted payment method
-
Complete the Plaid authentication flow by entering your current banking credentials
- For help with plaid, click here.
- Confirm the connection to complete the process
Once you've successfully re-authenticated, your payment method will return to active status and you'll be able to use it for transactions immediately.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues during the re-authentication process:
- Double-check your credentials - Make sure you're using your current bank login username and password, or account and routing numbers
- Verify your MFA method - Ensure you have access to receive any multi-factor authentication codes from your bank (these are the 6-digit codes you receive via email or text from your banking institution)
- Try again later - Occasionally, bank systems may experience temporary issues
