How Business Names Work When Creating Contacts
In Pocketbook, every contact you create is associated with a business nameāeven if they aren't part of a company. This association helps keep your contacts organized and makes it easier to manage your interactions. Here's how business names are assigned in different scenarios when creating a new contact.
Scenario 1: Creating a Contact with a Public Email Address (e.g., Gmail)
A. Business Name Not Filled Out
- What Happens: If you enter a public email address like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook and leave the Business Name field empty, Pocketbook will automatically set the business name to the contact's First Name and Last Name.
- Example: You add a contact with the email jane.doe@gmail.com without entering a business name. The business name will automatically become Jane Doe.
B. Business Name Filled Out
- What Happens: If you provide a business name while using a public email address, Pocketbook will use the business name you entered.
- Example: You add jane.doe@gmail.com and fill in the business name as Doe Designs. The contact's business name will be Doe Designs.
Scenario 2: Creating a Contact with a New Business Email Address in Your Account
- Requirement: A business name is required before you can create the contact.
- What Happens: Since the email domain isn't associated with any business in your account, you must manually enter the business name to create the contact.
- Example: You enter the email john@newstartup.com. Before saving the contact, you must fill in the business name, such as New Startup Inc.
Scenario 3: Creating a Contact with a Business Email Address Already Associated with a Business in Your Account
- What Happens: If the email domain matches a business already in your account, Pocketbook will automatically associate the new contact with that business.
- Example: You've previously added Tech Solutions with the domain @techsolutions.com. When you add a new contact with the email mary@techsolutions.com, the business name will automatically be set to Tech Solutions.
Tips for Managing Business Names
- Double-Check Before Saving: Always review the business name for accuracy before creating the contact.
- Business names cannot currently be changed once they are associated with a business email.
